Super bantamweight contender Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo will not be performing in the main event of the “A Puño Limpio” card Friday in San Juan, Puerto Rico, due to an ankle injury.

An ankle injury has forced 122-pound contender Jonathan Oquendo out of the main event of the “A Puño Limpio” card Friday in Puerto Rico (Primera Hora/Israel Gonzlez)

Oquendo (20-2, 13 KOs), 27, was scheduled to defend his World Boxing Organization NABO 122-pound title against Thomas “KO” Snow (14-1, 9 KOs) at the Pedrin Zorrilla Coliseum.

“We met with Oquendo’s team and dedided that Jonathan will not fight,” said PR Best Boxing Promotions vice president Peter Rivera. “He is the number three ranked (contender) in the WBO and it is better now, not to risk him with this fight and his sprained ankle. We are going to wait and see if it is possible to put him in the next ‘A Puño Limpio’ card on June 3 in Toa Baja.”

Oquendo, a native of Vega Alta, has been working his way towards his first world title shot riding a six fight win-streak after a 2008 defeat to Juan Manuel Lopez. He is coming off a first round knockout victory over former world title contender Cecilio Santos last January.

The new main event is now popular flyweight prospect and 2008 Olympian McWilliams Arroyo (7-1, 6 KOs), 25, of Fajardo and super bantamweight Camilo Perez (2-0, 2 KOs), 20, of Carolina, in separate four-round bouts.

The card will be televised at 9 p.m. (ET) in Puerto Rico on WAPA 2 and in the U.S. on WAPA America. Tickets for the event are still available at Ticketcenter locations, www.tcpr.com, and by calling (787) 792-5000
